Simple Early Morning Cremation

This shorter 20 minute service is held close to Mortlake at Mortlake Crematorium at either 9am or 9.30am with up to 10 attendees. This is ideal if you prefer a smaller, more intimate family led service to a full funeral ceremony. The service can be personalised with music, readings and tributes and we also offer a visit to see the person who has died at our nearby Chiswick premises, should you wish.

The Simple Early Morning Cremation service often appeals to families who are seeking a lower cost alternative but who also want to be present, connected and part of the final step of their loved one’s journey

£2,650 inclusive

Unattended Cremation

This service is often known as a Direct Cremation and is where there is no ceremony and no attendees.  It is the most minimal and least expensive option and has the least amount of choice, however at Exit Here your loved one will be treated with the same level of care and respect as with our bespoke funeral service. Unlike direct cremation providers we will tell you when they are brought into our care at either our Chiswick, Chelsea or Crouch End homes, and when and where the cremation will be (usually at Mortlake, Putney Vale or Islington & St Pancras crematoriums). You can also choose a song for the ceremony, place personal items in the coffin and we will take a photo of the coffin at the crematorium, if you wish.

If you want to know more about Direct Cremations and how Exit Here differs from other funeral directors and providers, read here.

Cemeteries and crematoria serving the Mortlake area

Irrespective of where someone lives, you can be buried or cremated anywhere, although the rates will vary for non residents. So although we're funeral directors in Mortlake, we work with cemeteries and crematoria across all the London boroughs and further afield too.

But most residents of Mortlake will choose to be buried or cremated somewhere in the Richmond borough, as it’s highly likely there are ties to the area or there may be other family members already buried or interned there. And of course, local London Borough of Richmond residents often benefit from special residents’ rates.

The cemeteries and crematoria serving the Mortlake area include:

Richmond Cemetery
Richmond Cemetery is one of London’s oldest cemeteries having opened in 1786 and is owned and managed by the London Borough of Richmond. Over the centuries the cemetery has expanded significantly and now borders Richmond Park and East Sheen Cemetery. The cemetery originally had two chapels of its own, one Anglican and one non conformist but both those chapels are now privately owned. Richmond Cemetery uses the chapel in the East Sheen Cemetery for burial services.

East Sheen Cemetery
Originally known as Barnes Cemetery, East Sheen Cemetery in Richmond is located in, and managed by, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The cemetery opened in 1906 on what was once woodland and increased its size in the 1930s. East Sheen Cemetery runs alongside Richmond Cemetery and today forms one continues graveyard. The original holly hedge which separated the two can still be seen. The chapel which was built in 1906 in the Gothic revival style is Grade ll listed and is used for burials for both East Sheen and Richmond cemeteries. East Sheen Chapel is available for people of all faiths and beliefs to use for funeral or memorial services. The chapel can seat approximately 70 people, with a further 20 standing.

Hampton Cemetery
Situated in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Hampton Cemetery is a small cemetery that was first opened in 1879 to serve the parish of Hampton. Hampton is now closed to new burials, and only used for family plot burials. However, there is a columbarium and Garden of Rest for created remains, as well as granite columbarium units which can take up to two urns.

Teddington Cemetery
Built on a former orchard and opened in 1877, Teddington Cemetery is located in and managed by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. In fact, some of the trees predate the creation of the cemetery. There is a pretty chapel with spires that seats 60 people, with standing room for an additional 10. Interestingly, there’s also a small and ornate neo Gothic mortuary in the grounds (which is no longer in use).

Mortlake Crematorium
Mortlake Crematorium, borders Kew and Mortlake, and is managed jointly by four London boroughs including Ealing, Hounslow, Richmond upon Thames, and Hammersmith and Fulham. Opened in 1939, the crematorium has a beautiful chapel which seats 94, with additional seating for 36 in the gallery. There is also a peaceful Garden of Remembrance on the site, as well as a dovecote.

South West Middlesex Crematorium
Situated in Hounslow and sometimes referred to the as the Hanworth Crematorium, the South West Middlesex Crematorium is managed by a board of councillors from the London boroughs of Hounslow, Richmond, Ealing and Hillingdon and the district of Spelthorne. The crematorium opened in 1954 with two small, cloistered chapels, which were eventually replaced by larger versions of the same design, and can seat 25 and 80 people. A third chapel, built in 1981, can accommodate up to 150. There are numerous gardens including the Wild Garden, a Rose Garden and a Children’s Memorial Garden.
